A cesspit, also known as a cesspool, is an underground tank which collects and stores sewage, traditionally built from bricks or concrete, but modern cesspits, like those on offer at Owls Hall, are made from Glass Reinforced Plastic (GRP). Regular emptying and servicing are essential for a cesspit, as it does not process or treat the sewage within the tank – it is purely somewhere to temporarily store sewage where other sanitation systems are unavailable.
