A Cesspit (often called a cesspool) is a sealed tank that stores wastewater from a property. Unlike other options, a cesspit tank stores all waste and requires emptying on a regular basis. It is used as a last resort where no discharge to ground or water course is achievable.
There are some alternatives to cesspits. If you have access to a ditch or stream you will need to use a sewage treatment plant. If your ground is permeable enough and you have enough room for a drainage field, then you can use a septic tank. Both of these options are preferable.
