Balfour Beatty Klargester Pumping Station Installation

Balfour Beatty Klargester Pumping Station Installation
Appointed by Balfour Beatty as part of the construction team on the new 1.83km tunnel on the A3 near Hindhead, Hampshire, we were asked to replace the effluent pumping system at the Robinia Care home, which bordered on the area of the works. We were contacted by Balfour Beatty as a trusted framework partner to design, install and manage the solution.

We completed a survey of the area and worked closely with the Balfour Beatty and the Maintenance Manager at the Robinia Care Home in order to propose the installation of a new, high capacity, twin pumping station. The pumping station was sized in accordance with the official British Water Flows and Loads code of practice,  to ensure hassle free operation. The system also included 24 hour backup capacity in case of power failure.

We employed specialist equipment to ‘fusion weld’ the pipes, which passed under the A3 carriageway from the pumping station to the existing discharge point, preventing rupture to the pipes and possible future problems to the carriageway as a result of this.

This complex project was met with such discretion, minimal disruption and high regard for the environment that, along with Balfour Beatty, we were praised by Ruth Kelly, Secretary of Transport.

We are proud to have played our part in striving for minimal impact on the environment whilst ensuring the success of the project.

Throughout the works it was crucial that the care home had continued access to the mains sewer so that it could continue to operate as normal. It was also vital that the vulnerable residents experienced minimal disruption to their daily routines.
