Following the discovery that their septic tank was leaking, Woodham Mortimer Village Hall approached Owls Hall to carry out a site visit and provide a quotation for replacing the tank with a modern sewage treatment plant.
Prior to contacting Owls Hall, the village hall had already received several quotations from other contractors, each proposing different solutions for the discharge of treated water into the environment.
After conducting a full site investigation, Owls Hall Environmental determined that the existing infiltration system (soakaway) was still functioning effectively and that the issue was isolated to a crack in the septic tank itself.
Owls Hall therefore proposed the installation of a modern Marsh Ensign sewage treatment plant, which would discharge treated water into the existing infiltration system.
The main challenge was identifying the most appropriate and cost-effective solution for the village hall, while ensuring the system remained compliant with environmental regulations.
There were also operational considerations, as the village hall facilities needed to remain functional during the works. In addition, the installation took place during periods of heavy rain, which added further complexity to the project.
By utilising the existing infiltration system and installing the new Marsh Ensign treatment plant, Owls Hall was able to significantly reduce the overall cost for the village hall.
The solution ensured the system remained fully compliant with the Environment Agency’s General Binding Rules, meaning that no permit was required, resulting in further savings.
The project was completed within budget, and the village hall’s toilets remained operational throughout the works, despite the challenging weather conditions
“I would like to thank your company for the professional work and attitude of your staff who recently carried out work at our hall. Your guys were courteous and friendly at all times and nothing was too much trouble.
They worked throughout heavy rain on their first day but despite all this still left the outside area looking better than before they started. In addition, the hall was left clean and tidy.
You were recommended by a few people and I can now appreciate why that was the case, so please pass on our thanks to all concerned”
