Sewage Pumping Station Installation

Owls Hall installs residential pumping stations

Pumping stations move wastewater from one location to another when gravity can’t do the job. Using just a small amount of electricity, a pumping station is a convenient solution for properties where the sewage system is located a distance from your main buildings. Owls Hall provides and installs pumping stations to suit every need.

What is a pumping station and why would I need one?

A pumping station or septic pump plays a pivotal role in ensuring efficiency and continuity of service when you cannot rely on gravity to dispose of wastewater. It uses a small amount of electricity to pump sewage away from the property.

If your sewage system is located at a higher level than your wastewater pipes or a considerable distance from your buildings then you may need a pumping station. Even if you are connected to the mains sewerage you may still need a pumping system to carry the waste away from your property.

Whether you are on mains sewerage or an alternative wastewater management system, you may need a pumping station to effectively move wastewater away from your property. We also conduct a detailed survey to ensure that you can choose the pumping station, or septic pump, that most closely meets your needs.

What Does A Pumping Station Look Like?

Typically, a pumping station consists of:

  • a tank below ground containing the working pump and its ancillary parts
  • pipework feeding wastewater or cleaned effluent into the pumping station
  • pipework feeding wastewater away to the mains sewers or treatment plant or clean water to a watercourse or ditch
  • a control system located over ground
  • a discreet cover above ground (for ease of access and maintenance purposes)

This solution means that all the sounds are contained within the tank, so there is virtually no noise and there are no smells, irrespective of the quality or quantity of the wastewater travelling through the network. In any case, all systems supplied by us are designed to meet the requirements of the Environmental Protection Authority.

The size of the tank depends on its purpose and location. Systems developed for domestic use, like Klargester Pumps: the Pumpstor Compact, Pumpstor Domestic and Domestic + range, are designed to be small so the installation is quick and hassle free.

For small scale projects, you may also want to consider Mercury and Venus versions from T-T Pumps, however these solutions are also scalable to suit larger developments. If you are considering a pumping system for your project – be it commercial or private – call us on 01371 850537 – we can arrange a free site survey to advise you on the suitable solution.

Which solution should I choose?

The size of the system depends on the size of your home and the amount of wastewater being fed through the system.

Water companies will be adopting privately owned pumping stations by 1st October 2016 should they serve more than one home or be located outside of the property boundaries. For this reason it makes sense to install a pumping station of an adoptable standard. For more details visit our page on domestic transfers of pumping stations or contact your local water authority. All systems that we install and recommend meet adoptable standards.

Need to a pump to control flooding?

Our pumps can also be used to control localised flooding, moving surface water along to a ditch or watercourse. Contact us for more information.
